A refugee is a person who had to leave their home because it wasn't safe anymore.

For example, imagine you have a friend named Sarah. One day, there was a big storm in Sarah's town and her house got destroyed. It wasn't safe for her to stay there anymore, so she had to leave and find a new place to live. Sarah became a refugee.
