overlook

To overlook means to miss seeing something because you are not looking in the right direction. For example, imagine you are playing hide and seek with your friend. If you are looking for your friend in one room, but your friend is hiding in another room, you might overlook them and not see them.

To overlook can also mean to forgive or not notice a mistake or bad behavior. For example, if your friend accidentally spills their juice on the table, you can overlook it and not get upset because accidents happen.
