ironic

Ironic means when something happens that is the opposite of what you expect.

For example, let's say you bring an umbrella with you because you think it will rain. But then, when you go outside, the sun is shining and there are no clouds. That's ironic because you brought the umbrella for rain, but it didn't rain at all.
