characterize

Characterize means to describe someone or something by saying what they are like. For example, if I say that my friend is kind and helpful, I am characterizing them.

Characterize can also mean to show the qualities of a person or thing. For example, if a movie character is brave and strong, the movie is characterizing them as a hero.
